Two heads are better than one. 3.2 billion heads are better than two. Collaboration on the internet provides the greatest compilation of knowledge known to mankind: Wikipedia. The information on Wikipedia is an incredible source for beginning to understand topics as well as giving support for a formal research paper. I want to break the stigma of Wikipedia being unusable due to its unreliability. The knowledge of how Wikipedia works directly supports its validity and usefulness. This collaboration of people across the world should be influential to students. It shows the importance of bringing various background, views, and knowledge together to create something whole. Collaboration across classrooms and disciplines promotes working in groups which directly supports future work habits and abilities. Through the use of Google, collaboration is the easiest it has ever been. By using Google Hangout and Google Docs/Slides, a group of students can draft and write a paper or a presentation from across the world at the comfort of their own homes. It is truly an amazing time we live in and as teachers we must take advantage of it!
I totally agree with the stigma aspect of Wiki! What do you think is the biggest factor in not utilizing it in the classroom? What do you think your assignments/projects will look like in your classroom, more individual or collaborative?
