social media
While it is exciting to be in the throes of technological advancement as a participant in this human experience, I am still leery. Today's class definitively nudged me to work on altering my perspective. I have never given much thought to the importance of social media for the millennial and the upcoming generations. It bothers me that people dedicate so much time to those platforms because it means they are literally attached to devices. I find electronics draining and try to spend as little time as possible around them. As a teacher, however, I will need to be more cognizant of others needs and not just my own. I do not have to embrace social media, I just need to accept it and use it in a positive light whenever possible. I do find it creepy that students would take the time to create social media platforms for their teachers. So, is it more than facebook? Are we supposed to create an account under every social media platform to protect ourselves? I am not thrilled about feeling coerced into creating multiple social media presences.

Hi Hannah,
ReplyDeleteI think that it is great that you are able to self-reflect and realize that social media can be viewed in a positive light. It was eye-opening for me to think about students creating a fake account for a teacher as well. With so many social media platforms out there, I was wondering how many new platforms may arise in our career as educators. Should we plan to make a profile for each of these? Eek! With that said, I am excited to learn more about how I can successfully implement the use of social media in the classroom to build a strong classroom community.
