I think that Physical Education is an exceptional environment for social emotional learning. Students are able to strengthen their relationship-building skills as many activities require teamwork and collaboration with the other students in the classroom. This can also increase their interpersonal skills as they will be forced to communicate with their peers and their teammates. They will be encouraged to make mistakes and learn from them, rather than be expected to have a perfect athletic ability. They will learn responsible decision making as they will need to make quick decisions as well as make decisions that are beneficial not only for them, but for their team as well. Finally, the students will learn how to channel their emotions and use those in a positive way. Students are all going through different struggles and tribulations that we may not know about. P.E. allows for an environment where they may not only be able to get away from their problems, but they also have a place where they can learn a positive way of dealing with the emotions they are having.
