I thought I was an expert?

Today I walked into this technology class with the mindset of already being a master of basic technology. I mean I grew up with it... Doesn't that mean I know everything that I need to know? Well I was dead wrong! I learned so much. Technology never faces to amaze me. Google is something that I use every day. However, I did not know some of these simple tools that I can utilize in my classroom for my students to find credible sources. Reliable knowledge is out there. It is our job as teachers to give our students not only the tools to find it, but to explain HOW technology works, and how they can use it to their benefit in learning. The same goes for the Wikipedia tools I learned. After just one day in this class I have thought of 10+ different lessons where technology will only benefit my student's learning.

Today I came in a little skeptical to what might be taught. Afterward, my mind has been opened to incorporating technology into my classroom frequently, while in a healthy way. The generation we will be teaching is raised with technology at their finger tips. Instead of fighting it, we need to embrace it and put it to our advantage to help our student's learn the best way possible! At the end of the day, it is about our students and however they learn best. Incorporating something they use in their everyday life outside of school will make the learning process more relatable to them rather than trying to separate their home life and school life.

  1. Right! I knew I was going to learn quite a lot today, but I had no idea that there were so many simple tricks that I had been living without for so many years. I am amazed that I have gotten this far without knowing some of the most simple tricks. I know they would have saved me many hours while doing research for papers. I'm glad I know them now and I'm excited to learn more.
