Connectivism and ISTE WOW!!!
The article on connectivism was very informative. I highlighted a couple of quotes out of it that I want to share and remember. " Learning must be a way of being. Knowledge is growing exponentially." We are always learning, especially in today's world. "Technology is altering (rewiring) our brains." this is so true the youth of today have a total different look at life. "When knowledge is abundant, the rapid evaluation of knowledge is important. Additional concerns arise from the rapid increase in information. In today's environment, action is often needed without personal learning." Just keeping up is so overwhelming. What is fact and what is fiction. "Connectivism is the integration of principles explored by chaos, network and complexity and self organization theories." Students learn through chaos and discovery. I personally struggle a little with this. I am very type A and analytical so I like spelled out directions therefore the word chaos is unsettling for me. I agree with the discovery part and as a teacher will try and do lots of hands on learning. "When knowledge, however, is needed, but not known, the ability to plug into sources to meet the requirements becomes a vital skill. As knowledge continues to grow and evolve, access to what is needed is more important than what the learner currently possesses." So it is not always about what you know but more importantly being able to know how to get the information you need. ISTE makes perfect sense. We all have roles and when we work to achieve them learning will happen.
