I'm gonna Skype your Mom

One idea I have for using technology in a way that is at the redefining level would be to Skype experts and have my students interview them. This is of course, not my idea, but it is one Jeff presented that sounds amazing. It is redefining because the students will be collaborating through time and space which is something we could not do without the use of technology.

Also, it could be a way to bring parents into the classroom who want to see what is going on of if they have special skills they could share without the class. I like the idea of familial involvement and this would be a way to bridge that gap. Of course there would be issues of privacy to deal with but in the age we live in technology is becoming more and more acceptable in the classroom. By Skyping in experts, or parents, or other classrooms across the world we are doing new things (collaboration across time and space) in new ways (through the interwebs).

  1. Haha I love the image here. "Calling Grandma looks so simple!" I love the idea of bringing parents into the classroom in addition to experts and global connections! Or aunts, uncles, extended family who are farther afield than parents, who probably are fairly frequent visitors to the school grounds already :) Students may think video chats are old hat already, though! Any other ways to enhance the experience that you can think of? Thanks for your thoughts!
