Teaching a lesson about spelling and giving a quick or exam in second grade is known to be by pencil and paper. Throughout the SAMR model changing this easy task and assessment through the SAMR will change the way children think about spelling and exams/quizzes.
Substitution: Have students take the spelling quiz on a tablet or computer through a word document. Turn off all spelling or grammar notifications so students are able to do their own work.
Augmentation: Have students convert there paper with answers to a google document. This allows for the teacher to see students work and give immediate feedback. Then the students are able to see what words or spelling was wrong. This is the start to a instant connection with students through technology.
Modification: After the spelling quiz students could use the words from the quiz to write a article/paper/poem what every they wanted as long as it included the words from the quiz. This also allows for instant feedback from the teacher.
Redefinition: Students are given there spelling words on a google doc. On the students tablets or iPads they are required to record and make a video or clip to show the students understand the words meaning is. Students in this way are able to collaborate after and watch echoers videos. This also allows for class collaboration to work on understanding and understanding of spelling words.
This change with one simple task can expose children to advanced learning which will help them grow and learning through technology!
I think this is a great idea and helps students build a deeper understanding of the words while learning new technological skills. Do you think you could apply this to other subjects?
