Welcome to the Wild, Wild West! Don' You Forget to Tweet Back, Ya 'eard!

As an introduction to a new unit, the American Frontier, I will integrate redefinition into this lesson. Students will work in collaborative groups of six using the social media application Twitter.

During the beginning of the lesson, students will see on the screen six visual images of significant people, places, events, or things during this time period accompanied by six random urls of the visual images. Each visual image is numbered and each url is alphabetized in increasing order. Using the urls provided, a designated representative will tweet me the corresponding numbers and letters that match the visual images. For example, 1a, 2c, etc. The first group who completes the task first will get first pick of a visual image and so on.

They will then on google docs write me a page for their assigned visual image and orally read it to class, accompanied by any Frontier music of their choosing or corresponding to the image (Like traditional Navajo music for significant people). The students will use sources from textbooks, Wikipedia, and any peer-reviewed database through their phones or other electronic devices.
